Promoted.—We are pleased -to-hear of the promotion of Sergt. Peter Cummings of Battery A, 1st Pfinna. Artillery to the position of 2d lieutenant. Lieut. Cummings is one of the original number enlisted, in the artillery company of ' Gen. Campbell, recruited in this section at the beginning of the Rebellion, and on the assignment of the various batteries of Gen^ Campbell's Regiment TCas attached to Battery A, under, the command of the lamented Easton. ' ¦ At tho battle of Drainesville" Lieut. Cuminings wsj conspicuous for his gallantry, and performed his duty faithfully in the subsequent engagements on the Peninsula, at Mana&as, South Mountain, Antietamsndi'redericksburg, and participated in the late fight at Blackwater ' . The .United States is located just between tha Depots of the several railroads,' and is altogether the mos^ convenient house in the city for travelers on the wing, and is besides one of the . iriost pleasant hotels for persons who tarry a while at the capital.
