MEAGRER COUNTY, MONTANA, FRIDAY, JUNE 18, 101x) No. 51 FIRST VICTORY Harlowton Takes the Game Sunday 6 to 4--Locals put up Good Article of Ball. The locals succeeded in getting away with the game Sunday from the fast Lewistown bunch in a first class exhibition of the national sport. The rain god had taken to the tall and un cut, and left Old Sol on duty. The day was ideal, and the grand stand contained a goodly number of enthu siastic rooters. The ground was still slippery from the recent rain, and be ing new and slightly rough made sure fielding uncertain. Lewistown started off in rather bad shape, errors by Baker enabled Chast to get to third who scored on a long fly to center. In the third, hits bi Lord and Windland and an error b) Slater enabled Hlarlow to put two more over the plate. Hines and Nefi brought in two inure which were ac countable on a two bagger by the lat ter and errors by Schaffer and S...

A DREAMER By JAMJg, DREXEL TURNER (Copyright, by J. B. Lippincott Co.) "I want her. Why doesn't she comet What is keeping her? If she knew how much I wanted her she would come." With the strength of a man in delirium he pulled away from the nurse who tried to soothe him. Two doctors stood by the window and looked down into the hospital's green yard. The elder of them shut his watch-case with professional delibera tion and went to the foot of the bed and looked at the man lying there, ugly and red with fever, long and emanciated. "He has kept this up for 20 hours now," the nurse said. "He thinks she is here sometimes and begins to talk to her, whoever she is, and then he asks where she is, and says they are trying to keep her away from him." "Have you any idea who 'she' is?" "No, sir. I should say she was his wife if he had ever had one, but every body knows that he is a bachelor." "Um," said the doctor. Everybody knew that Henry Lord was a bachelor. He had been a con si icuous bache...

Threshing Scene in the Musselshell Valley. BYlRR RO[VS TfAL MUSSFLSflMl[ BY REV. W. W. VAN ORSDEL ~GREAT FALLS, MONT. The valley of the Musselshell i° hcautiful for situation, being located little to the south of the geographical center of the state. Through it flows the river bearing its name, and taking its source in the Crazy and Belt moun tains, where many babbling springs and sparkling rivulets, uniting with other streams from the Snowy mountains on the north and the Bull mountains on the south of the valley, form the beautiful Musselshell river. Here was the home of the buffalo and antelope. And her, they roamed in great numbers at their will. o Tribute to the Old Pioneers of Montana And Some of the Old Timers of the Great Musselshell Valley The story of this nation more than that of any other nation of modern days, is the story of immigration and migration. It was founded by immi grants from England, Holland, Swed en and other European countries, and naturally they made their homes along the fringe of the Atlantic coast. By successive immigration and by migration inland, the development of the country has steadily progressed, until today there is scarcely a mile of territory that is not inhabited by the hardy settler. The migration has necessarily been westward. Imme diately following the Revolutionary War, and, in fact, during its progress, as the result of Clark's expeditions against the Indians, from the south eastern settlements the restless and yen lire-loving pioneers crossed the Blue Mountains of the Appalachian Range, and in like manner those further north crossed the Alleghanies and together they settled upon th...

Thoughts of an Old Timer BY MR. FRANK S. WEBSTER, SHAWMUT, MONTANA I arrived in Billings in April, 1886 although I first went west in I879, therefore, while I may not denominate myself as amon; the real "old timers' of Montana, I am not really a "tender. foot." The Northern Pacific was just finished through to the coast, and yoL can rest assured that the road bed wa, just awful, and the equipment and ser vice not to be compared with the 'North Coast Limited" of the present day. In gbing into the central part of Ioitntana ii those days it was just a choice whedner one would take the N. P. to Bismark and the Missouri boat to Ft. identon, or.continwue to bump along over the irregular and, uncomfortable railroad to Billings and then by stage to the interior. The old thoroughbrace stagecoach, drawn by four horses, was a feature of the line from Billings tc Ft. Benton, a distance of about 250 miles, and the trip continued night and day with stops for meals at some one of the stations wher...
