Emmerson, cashier of the First National Bank of Brush, Col orado, registered at the Fairview last week. He has visited all the islands, and has much to say in praise of the Paradise of the Pacific especially of the public roads, which he claims are superior to any he has ever seen. It is thought by some who pro fess to know that it is a question of only a short time when Hawaii will be placed under military control. Captain Miller has been grilled over tax returns relative to the James Makee, in connection with the Celtic Chief salvage case. An embargo may be placed pineapples at an early date. Njnety-seven per cent of the em ployees of the Illinois Central R. R. are ready to strike. The Har riman lines out of Frisco are also threatened by a general strike. TITU GARDEN ISLAND. SUNDAY BASEBALL In a red-hot game on the Kilauea diamond Sunday, the Lihtle team defeated the Kilaueas for the second time with a score of 6 to 5. The game was decided in the 8th., when Malina singled. Wood tried to catch him unawares and Malina in sliding back, picked up the bag and stood a little outside the dia mond. The ball in the meantime resting safely in Werner's hands A dispute arose which continued for about twenty minutes, resulting a "safe" decision for Malina, who then stole second, scoring on an error. in the backaway, Lihue got a run on a single, error and an out. Peter Ka- nihaalilo, a laborer in the road gang working on the .Hanalei grade, came near losing his life to-day when a' piece of earth under which he was tunneling, gave way, hurrying him completely. Awheel barrow, which he had taken into the excavation was at his side when the cave in occurred and in some manner h e was thrown beneath it before the earth came down. THE OARDKN ISLAND. Last Sundays Ball Game Outplayed in all departments, Makaweli trimmed the Lihue Sun day 8-4 'in a great ninth inning ralley. For seven innings they failed to cross the plate, in the eighth they brought the score 3 all. In the ninth they dented the pan 5 times whilst the Lihue scored once. An unpleasant accident in the first inning was, when Makanani hit the ball towards pitcher Honan the ball somehow striking him between the eyes almost retiring him from the game. The first run for Lihue came in on this. The third inning saw them with two more. Kamaka doubled Fernandes bunted safely and stole, Opunui fanned, Malina singled, scoring Kamaka and Fer nandes. The next two were easy outs. In the eighth Makaweli scored on an error single and a home run. In the ninth with two down, two singles and a home run brought in three runs.
