THf RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. NOVEMBER 13.'100B. V; ii Children for the Schools. The school amendment voted on in Tuesday's election has car ried and credit for this victory of intelligence belongs to the newspapers of the state which made the voters so familiar with tho importance of the addition to the constitution that there was not the customary neglect which is the usual fate of such consti tutional changes in Texas. The amendment provides that in common school districts bonds may be issued for school purpose and a tax as high as 0c on the $1 levied to meet the lxmds. Heretofore the highest tax possible in independent dis tricts was -20c. The last legisla ture passed a law permitting a 27e tax and on the stength of this law dozens of school dis tricts in the state prepared for new buildings. Some of them even voted bonds and began work. Then the courts held the 1 iw unconstitutional but to the everlasting credit of Texas, not a single district repudiated its' bonds, tho the courts' ...

THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. NOVEMBER 20. 1908. - pi I o I I interest leg Facts When you catch on to the fact that we're offering you the best values ever shown in this town you'll be surprised that you have neglected the opportunity so long. The fact that we arc doing business for ourselves doesn't prevent our doing business in a way that makes profit for you. We have two reasons for saying this. We pay cash for our goods, therefore we take advantage of all discounts. This means a saving of more than a clerk's salary. We sell for cash. We don't have to figure on having any bad accounts on our books at the end of the year. Don't you think these are sufficient reasons for us to say that we can save you money? Others have found out that "WE SELL FOR LESS;'' why don't you? BE SURE TO READ THE Ladies' Millinery Wo havo about twenty trimmed hats that sold early in the season at $4.00, $5.00. THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. NOVEMBER 20. 1908. EAST TEXAS EDITOR LAMENTS. Why The Panhandle is Far Ahead of Sleepy Community. The great Panhandle and its people are coming in their own these days, and the work of the last few years has begun to re sult in a rich harvest of publicity and new citizens. The Panhandle is now one of the best advertised and one of the most popular sec tions in the union. Eastern Texas people have waked up to the fact that we of the Panhandle are outstripping them, not by a neck, but by many lengths. As a result much is being written by eastern Texas editors on this subject. Here is a sample from the Grand Saline Sun, and it is interesting reading for the peo ple of the Panhandle: One thing that impressed us most among all of the great at tractions at the Dallas fair was the splendid exhibits of farm, and orchard products from West Texas and the Panhandle coun try. In looking about in agri cultural hall we found only one East Texas county represented by an ex...

THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. NOVEMBER 27. 1908. surami The business at the Canyon City Supply Company store has has had a steady increase from year to year but the increase in business this season has been unprecedentedly great, which fact alone is conclusive evidence to the thoughtful that the intelligent public, in their diligent search fora store where they can stretch the purchasing power of their dollars the farthest have turned to this BIG STORE as the place where they KNOW that they receive the greatest value for the least amount of money. For this increase of business we thank the buying public. It is customary, however, with the management to "clean up" the stock each year and to do this cleaning when the goods offered will be of service to the purchasers. We have, therefore, decided to give a two weeks' special sale on all goods in our large store Beginning Saturday, November the 28th at which time reductions in prices will take place in all departments. THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. NOVEMBER 27. 19QS. A Picture of Life's Sunset The other day I was talking with an old man. Hut aside from his trembling hands, dimmed eyes and whitened hair, he was a youth still slaking his thirst at the spring of periietual life. The milestones of three score years had flitted away unnoticed as to their number. His dreams were still rosy hued with the prosper ity and happiness that the fu ture years had in store for him. And I knew ns I listened to him that if perchance any of his air castles should grow into reality his footsteps would long since have left their mark on the sands of yonder shores. Hut he talked on and on, and his wan face glowed with hopes and ambi tions: he talked of everything ex cept his fast shortening span. I saw what he did not the glow and shimmer of the headlight of eternity as its beams danced across his plans and expecta tions. Poor old man. No. Happy old man. The greatest blessing nature ever bestowed uix-n the children of men ...
