Editor. H. -LOSER......................Publiher. St. Frauncisille, ,Jan 96 TS. Communicated. BAY VIEW, JANUARY 24, 1878. EDITOR SENTINEL : Dear Sir, During the Christmas holidays, I made a visit to Woodville, a place where in days lang sync, I was perfectly at home, and to which, though now a stranger, I still feel attached from those old associa tions. As I stood in front of the building for merly known as the Clerk's office, I was pai-fslly struck with the changed and dilapidated aspect of the town. The cit izens of course, have grown accustomed to its present appearance; perhaps amid the hurry of business, or the struggle for existence, have almost forgotten all that once made it one of the "loveliest villages of the plain,"-I beg pardon, it is nomin ally a city, with an excellent Mayor and...

CORRECT PENMANSHIP. [True Citizen.] I' there be noe iece"- tr more prepting tlhan another amonrg the minor details of busine-s practice, it is the need of good, clear, com prehensible penmanship. We be lieve that progress has, indeed, gone so far as to reject forever the rediculous balderdash that all great men have been poor writers. In onr history, without going any farther, the proof has been in the other direction. The signers of the Declaration of Independerrce were. almost without exception, good penmen, and no ohne who has ever seen the bold, round, manly signatures of Washington, Hancock and Franklin, will readily forget them. .4t the present time, there are, no doubt, many among our promi nent professionals, who write a 'poor fist,' as the phrase goes. Indeed we know one eminent jurist now on the bench of one of our highest Courts, whose cacography conveys to the behold:'rs the idea that a frightened beetle had first crawled through the ink and then scam pered over the pape...

Denuern :icehasrd -,nt,, '- itt"e,.r the Prote-tant preaches ,of Cincinnati are holding meetings to debate.. It appears that the congregations in the churches' of those preachers are small; that the attendance is dimin ishing year after year; that it is less to-day than it was twenty years ago, and that the outlook for the foture is not at all hopeful. The language that fell from the lips of the Cincinnati preachers, the dolo rons refrain that issued from the months of the Rev Mi. Emery a, d the Rev. D,. Morey. and the R.,'. Mr. Mann, might almost raise a feeling of despair in the mnds of those who still adhere to them. If the attendance upon their churches continues to diminish for the next twenty years at the rate it has dim inished for the past twenty years, the costly edifices will have to be given up to the owls and the bats and the bitterns, or turned to other uses than those ...
