in the heart of a lovely rolling country, and near the beautiful river so famous in song and legend, the Guadalquiver, lies an old Spanish town, founded more than two thousand years ago by the Ro mas. o the Spaniard it is known by Jeres, to the FrenLeh by the name of Xerels, to the Americans, English, and the world generally, it is familiar as the headquarters and depot for the famous SSherry wine. The Spaniards e~eclare that no Englishman or American has eriisv~ t adble ý'~'properl' pronoune "Jerez,"and certainly it is impossible to give on paper an idea of the name as it sounds falling from its native tgague. O'Shea, in his guide book, attempts it thus, "Ohgherris," but it gives a poor, if any idea. Foreigners, generally, therefore, make an abortive attempt and say "Harrez," or more wisely call it "the sherry place." A few dayq since, our party went from Cadiz to Jerezby rail, and having en gaged rooms 'in the comfortable hotel, started with a guide for an immediate inspection of...
