In conversation with a wealthy resident of Jamestown, yesterday, the Alert rep resentativc was informed of a plan under contemplation for the immediate erection of a first class hotel. "It is proposed," •aid the gentleman, "to form a stock company of $75,000 and erect a fine hotel building on the south side, between the depot and the court house, and at least two squares distant from the depot and then to lease the building to some responsible and experienced party for a term of years. 1 know seveial parties willing to take $5,000 of the stock lam down for $2,500. The exhibition of the products of the James river valley at the Minneapolis fair attracted much attention, audit is. due the people of the valley that they should know what was shown and who furnished the specimens. The committee who de­ cided as to where the banucr- belonged, stated to the gentlemen who had charge of llie James river valley's exhibit, that it was equal to, if not better, as far as the substantial products were concerned than that of Bismarck but the latter place bad been at work longer and Lad their exhibit better classified and more artistically arranged. Omitting the usual long-winded speech, popular upou such occasions, Mr. Wallace announced that the conven­ tion was ready for business. On motion of Col. Lounsberry of Bur­ leigh county, C. S. Cleveland of LaMoure county and editor of the Grand Rapids Journal, was elected secretary. Col. Lounsberry then moved that the •hair be instructed to appoint a commit­ tee of five on credentials.
