Friends, we told you last summer that we didn't intend to dun you until about Christmas. Well, we have kept our word. It is certainly aggravating to read duns, and seldom will our a most boundle83 leniency permit us to even demand any of our debtors to pay up. But Christmas is nearly here, and we must have some money. Now, kind reader, if you owe us anything at all, above one cent, don't think we are talking to others and not to you. Your little bill, if paid, would help some; for, while we generally owe in largo sums, yet our "assets" are all iu scattered places and in small amounts, but a ided together they will amply, aye, a great deal more than mee...

TUG HOME JOURNAL SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1857. What the Banks Make by Suspen sion. For every day the Banks of Tenn., remain in a suspended condition, says the. Gallatin Examiner, they are uia kin? six per cent, out of the people who hold their notes. Any one who will take the trouble to make an ag gregate of their circulation, and esti mate the interest upon it, can soon work it out, and as we find the same point ciphered out by the Richmond Examiner, in reference to the Virgin ia banks, it will illustrate how our banks have their fingers in the eyes of our people. The Examiner speaks thus of the subject. The effect of suspension, legalized, is plainly to allow thu banks a bonus, beyond all doubt, from the public, of the interest on the notes they keep in circulation during the period of sus pension. They pay out those notes to the persons whose negotiable pa per they discount for interest, for their own notes, although charging full interest on the negotiable notes of their customer...
