Kearney, the howling hoodloom, is to be sued for libel for his attack upon the firm of C. Nugent & Co., of Newark, Ntw Jersey. A call is to be made for all health officers of the State to meet at Hous- ton next Thursday, to adopt concert of action regarding quarantining the State. Chicago gave a grand picnic on ^cxas* the 10th for the benefit of the afflict- ed in the south. It was an immense success, and netted several thousand dollars. Mr. Isaac Leopald left Waco about three weeks ago for Memphis, to minister at the bedside of his sis- ter, Mrs. Amelia Mentz, and her family, who were down with the fever. Wednesday his friends in Waco received the sad intelligence, that after the Mentz family were carried through the fever safely by his tender care, lie himself took the disease and died. Mr. Leopald was a young man, but had had the fever several years ago, and had 110 fears of a second attack. The negroes of Texas arc desert- ing the Greenback ''party." The refusal of the Waco convention to place a colored man on the tickct, defeated further proselyting in that direction. Seals can be trained to be the same to tishermen as dogs are to hunters. Bkfork Plevna 7,000 men, just the number brought from India to Malta, were destroyed in 33 minutes. In Alabama the largest crop of corn made in many years will be gathered, and the price will be the lowest since the war. A farmer in Dakota County, Min- nesota, had his reaper, left in the grain- field, broken entirely to pieces by a gang of tramps. A couple of Marshalltown (Iowa) girls have just obtained a judgment of $3,000 against a citizen of that city for slandering their characters. Every day since her birth each of the parents of a Flemingsburg (Ky.) girl have deposited 10 cents for her benefit. She is now 20. How much money has she now got, counting interest?
