Adjusting to the quarter or semester system sharing a room with acomplete stranger and stum- bling home at 2 a.m. with an 8 a.m. class the same day often chal- lenges many first-year college students. "For me I guess it's hard be- cause in high school you don't have a lot of free time but here you have one or two classes and a lot of free time" Segundo Calif.- area resident and first-year student Tiffini Banks said. "You should be studying. It's hard especially in the dorms be- cause you have your door open and people come in and out all the time. So it's hard to sit down and hit the books." To manage your time effec- tively heed warnings from other residence hall survivors. "Keep a balance. Don't study all of the time and don't party all of the time. Don't ta...

features 3 Abortion and Emotional Breakdown: Is the Convenience Worth the Risk? IfWBrand January 27 1994 (Part one of two) Dave Meads StqffWriter The abortion decision of 1973 in Roe v. Wade was the most controversial issue of the 70's. "Pro-Choicers" roared- their vicarious yawps from the roof tops of the world in defense of the rights of women while "Pro- Lifers" bellowed equal rumbles loyal to religious conviction. The clash sent waves of emotion flood- ing into the 90's and into a society resembling the Hatfields and McCoys when dealing with this issue. "Pro-Choicers" support that the right of privacy enables them to terminate a pregnancy. They also would like to remove any moral attachments establishing the termination as stricdy a medical procedure -opening the door for federal aided abortions paid by the taxpayer. "Pro-Lifers" have dug in their heals determined not to compromise their position re- vealing the moral arguments which are directly attached to Christianity. Whoeve...

6 features The 'Brand January 27 1994 c AEO: An impact (Continued from pg. 5) BSU Notes: by Laura Home AEO wants to keep non-traditional issues in consideration when decisions are made. Information about services available often pass by the non- traditional student many of whom are not around campus enough to find out about less publicized services that many tra-. ditional students know about be-' cause of their constant exposure. For instance AEO vice presi- dent Grace Elliott stated that many non-traditional students did not know about the availability of the nautilus equipment and swimming pool for students to use. Being a non-traditional stu- dent does not 'mean separation from the whole. In this aspect AEO has been making efforts to make contributions to university life. Guest speakers such as KTAB's Joel Fox visited the campus in December for all the school to enjoy. AEO commit- tee chairperson Ginger Owens helped spearhead a sale of foot- ball ribbons containing the team rost...
