It appears from the information obtainable that at the present time a gang of about 20 boys are kept apart from the older criminals, being placed in separate cells at night in the A division, and marched to and from their labour yard in the O division. This yard is surrounded with a high corrugated iron fence, and is overlooked by a sentry on duty at the back gate. It is stated that on Saturday' morning the boys wanted to knock off work at eleven o'clock, and because they were not illowed to do so they commenced to create a disturbance.. Cricket. HEIDELBERG V. DUMMETT'S EMPLOYEES. [Newspaper Article] — Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record — 19 October 1883

Cricket. HEIDELBERG V. DUMMETT'S EMPLOYEES. The first match of the season in con nection with the Ieidelberg Cricket Club took place on Saturday, 6th Oct. Owing to the want of water it has been found impossible to keep the pitch in order, and this year it was igroud to try matting, which has been success fully used by some country clubs. For this purpose coir matting is generally laid down, but the members of the H. 0. 0. decided to give a trial to string, which is more durable and less bulky. The result has been found to be very satisfactory, as the ball plays as truly us on turf, and the batsman can give his whole attention to playing the ball, instead of isir.g in doubt as to its destination being his head, body, or a shooter. lluidelberg having lost the toss took the field, but quickly disposed of their opponents for the total of 34, princi pally owing to the splendid bowling of Nuttall, who secured 9 wickets for 0 runs. When tiuo was called the [Het delberg team had lost 5 wick...
