ALEXANDRIAN IN ENGLAND. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 16 June 1950

ALEXANDI?IN IN ENGLAND. The following are extracts from . a lettei received fromi Miss Rose Collis, who is now in England. The contents of the letter cover part of her trip from Australia to England. "On April 8th the train left South ampton about 11.15 a.m., and we had the most lovely trip'to London, which occupied two hours. The country is in the beginning of spring.. Primroses and daisies were growing wild beside the line, and we saw several golden pheasants. Every plant seems to be green, and they all mix into the soft est imaginable shades. Even the sun shone and therO' was no rain-truly a welcome to England. "We came up through Winchester and Wimbledon. Thatched cottages were plentiful, and: we saw a castle in the distance. "Considering the amount of luggage to be moved, the organisation on the train was marvellous. "After we settled in we had a short walk down the Strand to Admiralty Arch, along to Trafalgar Square where Nelson's Column stands, and back again. "Our dinner 'os...

Alexandra Defeat Yarck: 'Alexandra again showed their supremacy as a football team, and outclassed Yarck, who relied too much on nindividuaL players. The opening term saw Alex andra open with great dash and vigour, and the Yarck defenders were kept busy. ,Opiceag sin "Alexandra's big men (Ellis, Ware and Andrews)- were -a- wmping factor in the rucks,-which-enabled rovers Wilson and Hewitt, to play really good football. Ellis and O'Tooleon the forward line.kick ed straight to the big sticks, and the quarter concluded thus : .. Alexandra, 5-1. - " Yarck 1-1. The sec nd term was still Alex andra's, while McPherson was playing well in the pivot position for Yarck. McPherson's efforts were of .no advantage as-their half forward was beaten by.
