[?] The usual weekly meeting of tho Mutual Improv ment Society was held last week their being a goodly number of members preseut. Mr. H. Smith, (president) occupied tho chair.' The ministry were to introduce a bill to bo read first time ; but the premier beingabscnt the proposed bill was brought forward, 44 Should the Chinese ba entirely excluded from Australia.' Mr. J. Bruce opened an impromptu debate in tho affirmative ; Mr. J. Smith filled the position of speaker, and Mr. J. Curtis led the opposition. Messrs G. Corbett, W. Brenning, and A. Johnston defended the miniatry while Mr. R. Knox spoke for the opposition. The miuiatry were , victorious by 14 votes to six. Tho society propose holding a concert on the 1st June. Mr. R Knox brought forward his motion of which he had given notice on the previous night, to the effect that ladies be admitted to the society at half price. After somo discnasion it was lost. Kiimgaloom ©airy Company. The half-yearly meeting of the shareholders of this compony was held in the Kangaloon hall on Thursday night, 28th ult. The report and balance sheet showed that during the six manths ending 31st March, 339, GGS gallons of milk wns received, which produced 144,45Glbs, of butter, for which suppliers had been paid tho satisfactory average of 5d per gallon. The directors declared a dividend at 0 per cent, on all paid up capital. The machi ucrv. appliances, and^buildingof tho company were all in good working order. Tho Chairman said it was gratifying to hear such a favorable report aud b.ilancc-shect. Since taking over the piggeries the company was receiving about £t per thousand gallons skim milk, against 12/6 per thousand received when tlje piggeries were rented, M. Young, A. Fyfe, R. W. Moses, H. Taylor, M. Rico, T. Scery, J.P., J. L. Campbell, J.P., J. R. Scroggie, Edwd. Moses, G. P. Gilbert, Hon. John Lackey, H. C. Rose, and others. Mr. J. A. Badgery presided. Tho secretary (Mr. Yco) read the minutes of last meeting, wluoh were adopted. Apologies wero received from Mr. P. H.Throsby, Dr. Barcroft, and Mr. Gavin George, who were unable to attend. A protest was considered from Mr. F^fe as to award of prize to Mr. G. Tate, junr., as his licifer was over three years old. Moan Vale, was summoned by the Inspector of Nuisances for allowing a cow to stray in Argylc-strcet on the 20th April. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined 5*. and 6/0 costs. S. Croaker was also summoned for having allowed a horse to stray on the public highway on April 2(Jth The dofondant not having put in an appearan :o Mr. Wilahire said ho would take tho case cx parte. The offence was proved and tho defendant was fined «3s. or 0/0 costs. Mr, Gale paid the fine.
