THE MIGRATION OF THE POPULATION OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA [Newspaper Article] — Geelong Advertiser and Intelligencer — 2 March 1852

THE BIGRATION OF THE POPU LATION OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA (From the Adelaide Chronicle.) Srice the world hegan there has perhape never been a more extraordinary move ment than that whieh is taking place in South Australia, It is not too much to say that 4 out of every 5 adult males in the province have either gone or intend going to the Victoria Gold Diggngs; and this migration is.confined to no par ticular class, for every grade and condi tion, every trade and profession will have their representatives. It is, however, a singular fact, that the population are not thus moving in entire families or permanently. Generally speaking, it is the father, or some of the sons, those in fact that can be spared, who go.
