SANDRIDGE POLICE COURT. Monday, September' 6, 1869/' (Before C. Mollison, P.M;, and Messrs. Swallow and Philip Leigh., J.P.'b.) Attempted Murder on the High Seas'. -John Wright, a seaman oh hoard the American barque Abhy Bacon, was charged with throwing a marlinspike at Joseph Warren Besson, captain of that vessel, with intent to kill. Mr. Gurner prosecuted on behalf of the Crown. The alleged offence was com mitted on the 2nd of August, on the high seas. Mr. Gurner stated,that the vessel was an American one, but-that leave had been obtained from the United States Consul to proceed with the case under the " Merchant Seamen!s Statute," 1865. This was objected to by Mr. Byrne, who appeared for the prisoner, stating that the case came within the provisions of the "Foreign Seamen's Act," and that therefore the Court had no jurisdiction. The case was remanded until Thursday. Insulting Behaviour.-Joseph Kelly was charged with this offence, and fined 10s. or forty-eight hours' imprisonment....

Jones.-Edward; Bro derick, a publican, summoned Thomas Jones, a niglit watchman, for 30s. the price of 'five bottles of brandy.1' The plaintiff alleged that a lad named Drake fetched the brandy for defendant, who, however, asserted most positively that he neither ordered nor received the brandy. There was a great deal ,of swearing in the case. Drake swearing that Jones had «ent him for the brandy, arid that it was consumed on his premises. This witness was severely examined by ]\Ir. Fawsett, who ap peared for the defence, as to his ante cedents ; he, however, stuck to his story as to where the brandy went to. At the request of the plaintiff, the case was adjourned for a week, to give him time to produce witnesses who would distinctly prove the delivery of the brandy.
