SHEEP IN QUEENSLAND. [Newspaper Article] — Western Star and Roma Advertiser — 8 January 1876

SHEEP IN QUEENSLAND. The following remarks are by an Old Bush man," in the Australasian:— In all first-class Queensland sheep country the sheep is a healthy, vigorous, and highly fed ani mal, and this vigour and rich feeding, together with the heat of the climate, gives wool such a tendency to grow coarse that even the very finest sheep cannot long maintain thier excellence in producing a woolled offspring with out having recourse to the introduction of new blood, which is best done by introducing fresh rams from either New South Wales or "Victoria. Beyond a tendency to deteriorate," by becom ing a little coarse, there is also a second fault in the Queensland fleece, which requires the corrective of fresh blood, namely, that though the sheep be ever so vigorous, healthy and well fed, the heat of; the climate inclines the animal to produce a smaller flsscii; firstly, by the staple becoming shorter, and. secondly, by the Queens land animal becoming less heavily clothed at the points, ...
