AN AMATEUR SHOWS THE WAY At a spot about one mile outside the little town of Home Hill. Queensland. Mr. George Vass is building a home for himself in his spare time. It is being constructed of concrete blocks, and Mr. Vass is out ,to demonstrate that he can build it for less than £50 per square. Tile house will he approximately 50ft. x 40ft. The concrete blocks will measure 13in. x 9in. x Bin., and will be made by the builder on the site, using one part of cement to four and a half parts of Burdikin river sand. Each block weighs 061b. Walls will be 10ft. high and 9in. wide. Mr. Vass lias made the moulds for the blocks himself cn the site. They are collap sible. Their hinges were also made by tlie builder. The home is to be five rooms of simple design. Tlie front will be taken up by two bedrooms, the larger of which will be 20ft. x 10ft., and the smaller 10ft. x ltilt.
