TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — Malvern Standard — 15 June 1907

I TO THE EDITOB. J " Tis not in mortals to command success. We wilt do more-deserve it." SIB,-It seems to savour somewha of the pathetic that the Prahra Choral Society, the only música vocal association this side of th Yarra, should find it necessary t continue to publish its claims to th sympathy and support of Prahrai citizens. Desirous as we are to gail golden opinions as philanthropist and ready students of any means foi the advancement of the city of whici we are all so proud, yet, in variouí directions of culture, we are wofullj neglected. For what reason, is s mystery even to those who ar* generally wise in these matters. It has been said, " It is not the result in any case that is to be re garded so much as the aim, and the effort, the patience, the courage, and the endeavour with which desirable and worthy objects are pursued.' Even those who view with disdain the amateur efforts cf local enthu siasts, are perforce compelled to admit that the Prahran Choral So ciety has bee...

Prahran and South Tarra Private Assembly. The second dance of the present season's series in connection with the above assembly was. held in the Prahran municipal buildings on Wednesday last, when there was again a large attendance, and the time was parsed in a very enjoyable manner. Much praise was accorded the music supplied by Di Gilio's band, and the refreshments, supplied by Mr Holder, were excellent, and were served in the old halL The dancing took place in the city hal!, and the scene was a very pretty one. It seems like " painting the lily " to say that Mr Arthur Conquest, the hon. secretary, and his very excellent body of committeemen, worked hard to ensure tbe comforts of all ; but they did so in a manner that visitors found much to admire. The assembly is fortunate in having Buch an obliging body of gentlemen in charge of affairs, and to this reason can be ascribed the major part of the success achieved. The president of the assembly, Cr Wm. Densham, who is very popular w...
