qla irdra & ii' tntdatid lcC TEMERI NEC TIMIDS. PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY. FRIDAY, APRIL 18, 1909. FEDERAL politics present at the mo ment a very peculiar .situation,' the ultimate answer of which is but as yet mere conjecture. Huge as the interest was in the Gympie speech,' it was no less so in the policy speech of Mr Deakin's at Sydney a few days later. Both may be said to be policy speeches. Bet the reception.accorded to them was entirely dissimilar. _.Mr Fisher had to act as the mouthpiece of the "cancus," and his -handling of the financial problems was not at all happy, and Mr Deakin was quick to seize upon it. The saying that every politician is at heart a statesman may be true as far as the politician himself is concerned, but it is quite another matter when it comes to the actual public administrative test. There are many points in the Prime Minister's speech that call for comment, and they were criticised by Mr Deakin, but the main issue this time is connected with the...

EASTERTIDE. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 16 April 1909

EASTERTIDE. - The delightful weather conditions experienced during the holidays were such as to please the most fastidious. Those indulging in all a kinds of sport were easily pleased. 5 The followers of Isaac Walton, and r they were legion, experienced all that s could be desired, and speak highly of t the sport that the many excellent s.reams afforded during their sojourn. Judging by the many parcels of fish that were sent by coach and rail t during the past fortnight, it is no idle P boast when we say that Alexandra is second to no other district as a first- 4 class fishing ground. Those in search of hair, fur and feather also had %l merry time and all intend to again 1 favor these parts with their presence when time permits. It is safe to say that never before have so many tourists favored this town and district.
