The miners of this colony are not: snails in any sense, bat hard-ovorking, stal wart men, and .they won't allow themselves. to be trampled upon without resenting it,. and trying to defend themselves. The big capitalists, overgorged with money, are, now trying to take the bread out of the mouths of the miners in this district by. taking up whole tracts of country in the shape of huge leases of 640 acres in extent,. and I ask you, Mr Editor, If this is to be borne ? I hear that now a deputation of about 60 of these big capitalists has gone to wait upon the Minister of Minos to bring their influence to bear upon him to force him into. granting these large leases. Surely; the 1Minister of Mines will not allow himself to be coerced into a thing th.it is alike against# common sense and common justice. Who luha not said in childhood, " We must have a phlim pudding, mama, on my birthday," and the presents of lollies and nuts on such occasions, are events never to be forgotten. As for the marriage day, we cannot speak :) jioyfully, for mllanlkind generally, but still what fond recollections does that eventful day not bring to those who have "lived and lo--ed together through many a changing year." The going oiln of the world is an event of unmixed sorrow..t is well for. tauni Wifo can look across the troubled waters of the Jordan, and see a happy release from care :and suflliring. That we, thruoug thy great love and aid, nlay ever guard it night and day. Father of Life-Father of Light, What would thy care-worn children be."
