A Post Office Case. In a Justice's Cuurl at Scheneclaly, a few davs since, the Postmaster of lhat city brought an action aaaitist Mr. John Foster, to recover a penalty of $5, for an alleged violation of sec. 30 of the Pint "Office La.*'. Ttie defendant, sometime in the month ot July last, mailed at the Post Office in that city a Catalogue of Union College, directed the Principal of Springville Academy. On 'he first pago of the pamphlet was writlten the words* "with respects of J. Foster." It was con'ended on the part of the prosecution, that the words thus written was a viuialion ot' the 30) li -ifclioa of the ad, and (he deftr.iJani therefore )<able for the penalty of$5, prescribed by lhat suction. Oh the part of the defendant it wag insisted that the word* as written was not a violalion of the act—that it w«s not a memorandum within tj»e spirit ot that section. British Goods. "At no period for many years," says the New York Express, "has the quantity of British manufactures shipped to the United States been so small as at present. If even a packet Bhip gets a freight of =£250 or <£300, it is considered very good, as things go now. Passengers are the most profitable kind of freight, aDd they continue to be very numerous. The packet ship Patrick Henry, which sailed on Friday, carried out 20 cabin and 250 steerage passengers, whose passage money would yield not lessthan dCSOO. Her frei ght on goods did not ' reach d£300."

The head line? are harrow teeth, and the editor leads out his paragraphs with slips torn from an old board fence. The subscription price is two cords of wood and i li»ad of pumpkins per annum.
