CROPS ON MANY ILLINOIS FARMS INSURED AGAINST DAMAGE BY HAIL STORMS Hail storms have no terror for nearly 3000 Illinois farmers for their crops are insured and reinsured against damage from hail , in their own company which provides protection at cost , says the Illinois Agricultural Association . This mutual insurance service in operation now more than four years not only provides Illinois farmers with adequate protection-but does so at a saving of 25 tO : 35 per cent compared with the cost of similar service before they became cooperatively-minded and organized the Farmers Mutual Reinsurance Co .. This company is a legitimate co-operative enterprise similar to a co-operative marketing institution with the exception that one is a purchasing agency , while the other is a selling organization . The Farmers Mutual has more than $ 4 , 000 , 000 of hail insurance in force on Illinois farm crops , all of which is reinsured in a larger mutual hail insurance company .
