§ 1 DEVON CATTLE [Newspaper Article] — Farm Press — 1 April 1908

§ 1 DEVON CATTLE A PLEA FOR DEVON CATTLE T HAT Devon cattle have not been more generally written about and advertised in the agricultural journals of the country has been a surprise to the writer . I do not mean that they do not have-a wide distribution , for they can be found in nearly all the states of the Union , but little is ever said about them . The Devon is one of the oldest breeds in the United States , and , as one writer says , No doubt , the first furrow turned on the shores of Massachusetts was turned with a Devon ox at the plow ; many of the Pilgrim fathers coming from Devonshire and no doubt brought the red cow of that country with them . That the Devon should be so seldom written about or advertised in our leading farm journals is surely not because the breed has no merits to bring before the people . When we think what the breed has done in many sections to build up the scrub cattle of the country in which they have been introduced , both in the beef and dairy lines...

il Dutch Belted Cattle -Sme^ MM ^ M^ Mlg ^ MM^^ t ^ SOME CHARACTERISTICS OE DUTCH BELTED CATTLE By 1 . 1 . Rasey . New York THE Dutch Belted cattle are natives of Holland , but are not to be confounded with the spotted cattle now being imported from that country under various names , but are a distinct breed or family , and are so recognized by the Holstein and Dutch Belted Associations ; Their breeding . dates back to beyond the seventh century . This type and color being established by scientific mating , decidedly the highest attainment ever reached in the science of breeding . The historian Motley well said : These are the most wonderful cattle of the world . They have a white band or belt around their body , while the rest of their body is black , making , a very beautiful and impressing contrast . They are above average size , commonly known as a business size . Their form is usually very fine , and they are wonderfully productive as milkers , combining as they do , beauty and...

Q-SMgg I HERE is one kind of ready roofing which is absolutely water- **** proof and meets all the requirements of a ready roofing ; that is Congo . It is aptly known as the never-leak roofing . But Congo is not only waterproof ; it is also proof against heat , cold and acid fumes . It is made to last and experience shows that it does last . The strong point about Congo is the wonderful pliability . It bends like rubber , looks like it , and keeps the water out the same as real rubber would . FREE SAMPLE Don t buy your roofing this Spring until you examine a sample of Congo ; and remember , Congo samples are not special pieces prepared for the purpose , but are cut from our regular stock . We mention this because Congo is so attractive looking , so tough and pliable , that people sometimes think the samples must be specially prepared . UNITED ROOFING AND MFG . CO .
