Chicago , June 16 .-Trade was a little slack her * during the early part of the week on account of the frequent rains which ; had a tendency to keep the buyers at home . Later in the week the weather cleared up and with the liberal receipts on hand trade became brisk and gave satisfactory feeling all round . Increased receipts of tomatoes and Texas onions were noted , the former being ln heaviest supply since the Florida stock glutted the market some time ago . There is plenty of homegrown stuff around and it continues to arrive regularly . The mild weather is now having a beneficial effect on trading in fruits and vegetables and heavier business is looked for as the receipts continue to Increase . RUES WERE UNREASONABLE INTERSTATE COMMERCE COMMISSION ORDERS A REDUCTION . Georgia Peach Freight Rates to Eastern Markets Cat So and Refrigerator Charges l !_ c Fer Crate—Demurrage Charges Not Changed . Washington , Juno 14 . —The Interstate Commerce commission last Saturday rendered its decision on the Georgia peacli rates by declaring the freight charge . by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad company from Macon and ; Atlanta , Ga ., to Washington , Baltimore , Philadelphia and New Tork unreasonable and unjust . The complaint as stated in previous Issues of The Packer was made by J . J . Waxelbaum and related to the rates of 78 c per hundred pounds to Washington and Baltimore and 81 c to Philadelphia and New York with the refrigerator charge of l-Vic a crate of 42 pounds . Shipments were also required to contain 650 crates to make minimum cars . June 14 . —The first butter ol the season went into the cold storage houses this week . The amount ls not large , in fact , the storing is very light so far . For the first time since last fall the receipts of fresh butter have exceeded the consumptive demand . Many buyers returned from the west this week say the outlook for quite a big pack is very good and although the holdings for the entire season will not be as large as they were last year , and also the season Is late , there will be liberal offerings for storage purposes from now on . The season so far has been favorable for heavy make of butter , but it will be about a month late . Boston , June 14 . —Merchants have bean surprised at the excellent firmness in the strawberry market in the face of the present heavy receipts . The arrivals on every day this week excepting Tuesday only approximated 49 cars . Tne fruit rc-sjularly moved out at an average of lie per quart , though the weather was cool and untempting to buyers . No fresh stock was on the market Tuesday , and as a consequence in the afternoon of that day prices advanced to 12 _ 13 c on Delaware . Berries from the latter slate ore running fine in quality . They show • better color , more size and firmness than any other strawberries received so far tbis season .
