ft 1 CLAUSES IN CONTRACTS. HuvlMtnren Are Preparing g§S«®t Protect Themselve*. IffefcK Manufacturers and their Immediate pS customers are beginning to get them* selves in shape for the dull times that P- they know would ensue in the event of the election of Mr. Bryan. Reports from all over the country indicate that "Bryan" clauses are soon to be the rule in signing new contracts. The latest is a contract entered into be tween the New Haven Carriage com pany and the J. Curley company of Brooklyn. The contract specifies that the New Haven company shall furnish the Curley company with a certain number of carriages at a certain price until Nov. 15, 1901. With the contract received by the Curley company was the following letter from the New Haven company: "We enclose herein agreements sign ed. You will notice that we have made an indorsement at the bottom. Will you please indorse this yourself? It is just as good policy for you to indorse it as it is for us, for you do not wish to be ...

as} v^-i- ',' *vf w* _i IMPROVEMENTS. S MANY IMRPOVEMENTS AND AD vDTTIONS WILL BE REPORTED ,BY PEN OFFICIALS. -The report of the warden and trus tees of the state penitentiary, soon to be filed, will show the greatest num ber of additions and improvements undertaken or completed at any insti tution in the state. The most import ant is the completion and installation oi tne twine plant, with complete ma chinery and fittings for the making of 10,000 pofeidsof bidding twine a day. The first year's operations came at an especially bad Beason. Crops through the state were largely a failure and the demand for twine was very light. Several large orders -which were filed early in the season were canceled when it was seen there would be little or no harvest. For this reason the penitentiary plant has stored away a large amount of manufactured pro duct for sale the coming year. The twine plant has been closed for a couple of months and will remain so until Dec. 1. An appropriation will ...
