Governor Peabody, the republi can, was defeated for re-election by a decisive majority of over 10,000 by Adams, the democratic nominee. This result, in the face of a republi can majority for Roosevelt of over 20,000, is giving birth to much dis cussion as to the causes which con tributed to the anomalous outcome, which is all the more noticeable from the fact that with the exception of governor the other officers on the re publican state ticket are elected.
