What can the South propose that would be likely to benefit ber? What redress could she obtain if she asked it? PUBLIC LEDGER. O ffi ce. JJo. 18 Metdiaon Btraet lamest" city circulation. - KM I"ri IH i Saturday Evening, Do. 29. 1B66 TEX DEMOCRATS S0STAIHED. Tho Supreme Court of ' the United Suites is encountering the execrations of the Jacobins, and its very existence is in some jeopardy. Its recent decision, de elarinif the military tribunals that dom inated over the country during the war unconstitutional, is a terrible ? threat against many measures of the Radical party. This tribunal appears to hare escaped the contamination of the times, and stands a bulwark against the surges of partizan passion. It is well for the happiness of the American people that this arm of the Government remains true to its ancient teachings, nd abides by the recognised principles of American liberty. It sustains substantially the prin ciples of the Democratic party. When, as the New York World forcibly observes : "At ' the tinkling of a little bell,' citizens were snapped up by pro vost marshals all over, the c...

The Courier le Etati Unit of yesterday explains the non-rcceptiou of Mr. Seward's cable dispatch of Nov. 22d. It was presented to the Minister of Foreign Affairs by ' Mr. Bigelow, and was refused on account of its rudeness. Mr. iiigelow argued what was rude in French was very polite in English. To which the French min ister replied that it was useless to discuss a pnper of a Government which did not regard its own stipulation's of neutrality end instanced the occupation of Mata moron. The cable dispatch was received conditionally, but afterwards returned to Bigelow on the confirmation of the occu pation. , Senor Romero, representing the Juarez Government here, is of opinion that ow ing to mutual relations of understood ' stipulations on the part of the United States and France, both parlies will act at their pleasure in Mexican...
