Mr. Depew has never been a strong fg re in polltics. Every citizen of the town feels proud of the sa.surance that the large finishing plant of the Dalton-Clark Stave Company will be located here, and those who did not know it before are thor oughly convinced that when people undertake to do a thing they can do it if they put up the right kind of hustle. The Southern Sentinel ISM coATU, Udlasr. WINNFIELD. : : LOUISIANA. LAND OF A DREAM. Dewn where the rjlvr brawls throgh th green valley, Down where the cat-tails stand by the swift stream, Down where the wild Winds are snging a rally, And the clits are all scarred, Is the land of a dream; There where the skies in their color are vieing With your eyes, as they looked in aday that I know, There where the purple-topped clover lay dying, And the breeze bore Its last perfumed breath to and fro. Oh, It's there where the reapers had fin ished their reaping, There, there where the bees droned sray the sweet day, Till the night in cool dews o'er the fallen came weeping, There, there, where the purple-topped sweet clover lay; Oh, it's there that I see you ere night lamps are lighted. While I'm sltting alodne in the night's purple gloom, Oh, It's there all the wrongs of the years have been righted, And there's just you and me and the clover's perfume. Oh, It's there, If the spirit may come back...

Working Woman and tke Home By miss JULIA -LATHROP HIiE O ). patriarchal idea of family life has already disap. S peared. There was a bond of economic unity when the head of the bousehold was the only support of he family, and when the arts now in the hands of men and carried on in factories were peculiar to the household and con dncted by women. Now, when daughters work in these factories and although able to live independently, bring their wages to swell the family bank account, there is a voluntary unity, together with individual independence, which is a much higher and finer thing. It is quite another matter for mothers to work to help support their families. This is almost always disas trous to family life, whether it is caused by the death or desertion of the father or by the smallness of his earnings. We ought to be wise enough to recognize that a woman who brings up a family performs an invaluable and most exacting task of citiaenship, and should be unhampered in its performa...
