Republican: The agricul tural and horticultural prospects of this vicinity are not so promising as iias been hoped for, owing to the om nivorous invasion now being made by the grasshoppers upon corn, oats, rye, fce. They are eating the corn at the rate of twenty acres a day, in a single field, and where it would now have been large enough to cultivate, not a hill is discernible. This to some may appear incredible,but it is nevertheless true. Rev. Long of the Seventh Day Ad vent persuasion, closed a protracted meeting at the Bray school house.' of several weeks duration,last Tuesday. June ."ith, for the pur pose of devising ways and means for protecting themselves from the depreda tions of the "festive grasshopper." The meeting was organized by electing X. Ford, chairmau and J. I. Tiles, secre tary. Upon taking the chair Mr. Ford of fered a lew appropriate remarks, ex planatory of the object of the meeting, commending the spirit evinced by the farming community, and counselling immediate and determined action. Upon motion a committee of live men were appointed by the chair to draft res olutions embodying t lie sentiments of the people. The following named person- constitute said committee: duo. Suovdcn, Y.
