FOll LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR : ROBERT E. WITHERS, of Wythe County. FOR ATTORNEY GENfcRAI. : RALEIGII T. DANIEL, of Richmond. The funding of tho State debt and paying interest oil the funding debt is sought to be made a great bugbear in the present political campaign. It is represented as an act of the grossest injustice as wed as of the most ruinous folly that a former legislature should have passed a law by which the State of Virginia, as now constituted, would get rid of that part of the debt which she contends West V irgina ought to pay, ad would be held liable for only so much of it as she admits she is fairly bound for, upon the simple condition that she would give her bonds fop the unpaid interest which she had not paid 011 her share of the debt, and convert into an interest-bearing fun...

Jefferanian (Established in 18 35.) WEDNESDAY MORNING. OCT. 8, 1873. (Agricultural Department. Good Teeth. Civilization makes bad work with teeth. Savages are rarely ever troubled with a defect or an ache in their dental apparatus It is not hot drinks which destroy them prematurely, nor warm food so much as acids, too concentrated in vinegar, pickles, etc., which act directly upon the lime in their composition, and thus crumble tliem. The foundation of sound firm, white teeth must be laid in early life, by subsisting on food that contains the elements which the teeth must have, or tliey will be imperfectly formed feeble in structure, and fall early into decay. If wheat flour was never bolted but eaten with the bran, as we find it partially in the Graham bread, then the system would be abundantly provided with the phosphate of lime, the essential ingredient for the formation of the teeth. Butter contains a good portion of the phosphate of liino, and henco those who consume much of it...

JEFFERSONIAN REPUBLICAN. No young woman should receive the attentions of any Virginian who fails to Register or neglects to Vote. Tiib Dkfot.—Everybody knows where the depot is, and everybody goes there. It is a general resort, and is to our citizens, what an oasis in the great desert is to a weary caravan. It is the great panacea for all of our good citizen's troubles, disappointments, etc. tf the head of the family attempts to help himself to "another cup" of colfee, and in the effort overturns the coffee-pot and saturates the table-cloth with its contents, he seeks the depot for the purpose of avoiding a ni-tro-glyoerine interview with his better-half. If a number of the Masonic fraternity remains -at the lodge until the polygamous old shanghai roos ter awakens from an attack of the nightmaro, and crows aloud, he shuns a curtain lecture the fol" fowing morning by goiug to the depot. Whon the Confederate cause wns crushed in battle by the weight of superior numbers, the Southern States became a conquered country, and according to the law ot nations, tiie United States, their conqueror, became liable for, and bound to pay the debts of these conquered States. liut the Radical convention of Virginia inserted provisions in the constitution of thoStatc, which again assumed the anti-war debt, and.made it the duty of the legislature to levy a tax to pay the interest and a part of the principal annually. Jcffcraman (Ustablishoct in 1835.) WEDNESDAY MORNING, OCT. 15, 1873. Department. Relieving ( linked Cattle. On sin animal becoming choked with any hard substance that cannot pass the pullet, harsh measures should never be used until all others have failed. The practice of placing a block against one side of the throat nnil endeavoring to break tlie obstruction with a mallet, as is sometimes practiced, is simply brutal. One of the simplest, and at the same time most efficacious remedies is to give half a pint of lard oil or melted lard, by drawing out the animal's tongue, raising the head and administering from a thick bottle. This lubricates the gullet, sickens the stomach, relaxes the muscles of the throat, and in coughing the lodged substance will generally pass either up or down. If the choking lias existed so long that inflammation of the throat lias ensued, resort must be liad to the porbang—any flexible rod, either whalebone, vulcanized rubber, etc., with a sponge or soft subs...

Again. This question ol attitude of the Episcopal church towards the other churches 6f Pro testant Christendom was, after all the real question involved in Bishop Cummins' Communion Act at the recent meeting of the Evangelical Alliance. The right or the wrong, the lawfulness of his conduct, turned solely on this point. That meeting was a noble gathering ol the great Protestant household of faith. It was a goodly and pleasant sight to see Christian brethren from almost every laud and nation and people and tongue, meeting together and dwelling together in such blessed unity. An...

The Jeffersonian. (Established in 1835.) By F. N. Barksdale & Co. This paper is entered at the Post-Office at Charlottesville, Va., as second-class matter. -- WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10, 1880. The General Assembly of Virginia closed its inglorious career yesterday afternoon. The House of Delegates on Saturday repealed the 12th section of the McCulloch bill, known as the Allen amendment. ——— The attempt to pass the Riddleberger debt bill notwithstanding the objections of the Governor, was defeated on Monday by a failure of the necessary two-thirds vote. On Saturday the Legislature elected Hon, B. W. Lacy, Speaker of the House of Delegates, Judge of the Eighth judicial district, to succeed Judge Robert L. Montague, lately deceased. The Legislature has adjourned without passing any appropriation bill. Whatever outcry this action may raise, let the blame be placed where it properly belongs, on the coat-tails of the fleeing Readjusters. -- It is reported that Mr. Tilden has declared...

WOMEN SHOULD RECEIVE A PRACTICAL EDUCATION. The almost universal necessity for labor must be recognised. It is worse than idle to indulge in sentiment and deplore the necessity of work for woman; such is the truth, and as sensible beings we must take the facts as we find them. Women do 'actually take a share, and that no inconsiderable share, in the labors pertaining to farm life and industrial all'airs. But few, "we presume, arc aware of the part actually taken by them. Of the six hundred millions ol pounds of butter, worth iT>IBO,*000,000; <ot tbo two hundred and forty wllliofts of pounds of cheese, worth $36,00 n ,0W : of the vast amount of honey, Cggs and poultry amounting to many milWows of dollars, the greater share is due to the industry of farmers wives, who have by far...
