Hhe Jlailn appeal. SHARP PRACTICE.— An Ohio correspondent becomes sponsor for the following, which, ns a matter of fact, he wishes to put on record: i,\y is one of the richest men in those parts, anil has made his money by driving sharp bargains. His hired man was one day going along with a load of hay, which he overturned upon a cow. The poor thing was smothered to death before they could get her out. ller owner, Jones, called upon Mr. W the next day, and demanded payment for the -loss of his cow. "Certainly," said Mr. \V "What do you suppose she was worth?" "Well, about ten dollars," said Jones. "And how much did you get for . the •hide and tallow ?" "Ten dollars and a half, sir." "Oh, well, then you owe me just fifty cents." Jones was mystified, and W very fierce in his demand, ami before Jone3 could get the thing straight in his mind, he forked over the money." Sacramento Correspondence. [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 25 January 1860

Sacramento Correspondence. [from ov.r own Correspondent.] SACRAMENTO, Jan. 22. 1860. ED. AITKAL :—Your "number one" was received in Jhis city this I*. M., umi the contents duly noted by many appreciative gentlemen from Yurba. Who is agent? was the natural inquiry of several. You will not fail to receive encouragement from this locality, I imagine, when you get business affairs in shape, and an agency established. There is nothing of decided interest to communicate to yon at this time, but the new.-paper world, like till other worlds, is made up of trifles, and you shall have an occasional budget from inc. which can always be thrown a<ide when r.ot wanted. Bless me, I am forgetting that this is no* a private letter. All this commencement then, goes by itself, n! now for items for the ••general reader." Ballon was as good as hi.- wold, and did introduce to-day, according to previous notice, a bill to abolish the office of State Onager. 1 fear that the honorable Senator was ...
