The cotton maiket continues firm with rather an np.vard tendency. The question of annexation continues still lo be agitated. In the Mississippi House of heprcsenta- tives we notice a resolution was. passed by a voto of 61 to 10 favorable to annexation. Public meetings continue to be held in different sections of the country in relation to it. Something more appears to have been learned in New Orleans of the action of the U. States Congress upon this question. We extract the following from an article in the New Orleans Repub- lican of the 17i!i. "Early in January a resolution was offered simul- taneously in both Houses of the Congress of Texas favorable to its annexation to the United States. r THURSDAY EVENING MAY 9 1841. From Corpus Christi. The schooner G. IV. A. Tate bound from Corpus Chrisli to N. Orleans arrived in this port last evening in distress having lost both her anchors on Aran- sas bar. From a gentleman who arrived on her we obtain news of some importance from Corpus Christi. On the 2d of May an engige- ment tood place within a few miles of that place (within the limits of Texas) between a company -df traders and a detachment of go- vernmep.t troops in which 15 of the latter were killed on the spot. They were acting under ord'-.-rs of Gen. Woll as a commission signed by him and a copy of instructions by him Were among the articles taken. The detach- ment consisted of forty-three men.
