Rents are high and all kindB of houses arc scarce. The jHdicls are full all the time notwithstanding the ftbsenca of the Legislature. This is due to the fact that a large" number of the enterprising coniractdra on the Railroad keep their families in the city for comfort and health as well as from necessity there being but few houses on the lino of the road. The Bridges at each end of Pecan Street (at least the atone work) have been .finished and await the hand- some iron structures now on their wny here from the North to be put in their f-places. These abutments are both fine specimens of masonry and well worth inspection. When these bridges are completed Pecan Street will be the best and hand- somest thoroughfare in the city.
