RE-ELECT HOLDEN for MAYOR * An Open Letter to the Citizens of Sachse: Serving as your mayor has been an honor. It's been an experience that's given me tremendous satisfaction and a sense of personal growth. I owe the people of Sachse. a great deal of thanks for helping me be the kind of mayor I wanted to be. Your phone calls, letters and personal contacts - on the positive and negative subjects -- gave me the input I needed to be effective. I couldn't have done it without your support and feedback. 1 believe every resident who complains about or praises a situation contributes to Sachse's betterment. Citizen comment issues elected officials a challenge. It's the responsibility of those officials to confront Sachse's problems and do whatever it takes to solve them. It's my belief that a partnership should be formed between the mayor and the citizens - and I think our partnership is off to a very successful start. Together, we've made a lot of progress in the last year: An "impact fee...

Lake Pointe Medical Center Dedicated in Rowlett In helping dedicate the new Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett, February 12, U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall said, "This is part of the pay we receive for being in Congress--and pay is something we don't talk about right now. In years ahead we can look back and say 'well done' ... I am honored to be a part of it." The Rockwall congressman then presented a flag to the hospital staff which has flown over the U.S. Capitol. "We need to always remember that this ribbon-cutting is a great day, but we mustn't forget the day-to-day routine that lies ahead," he said. The ribbon-cutting was con- ducted by Dr. John D. Seifert, who will serve as chairman of the Laser Surgery Dept. at the new hospital, which is located in the Heritage-On-The-Lake Develop- ment on the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard. Appropriately, the ribbon was cut with a laser. And cut and cut and cut, as dignitaries from sur- rounding towns participated in the ceremonies individually. Ken Tee...

City Council Grants Lone Star Gas Rate Increase In two hours Monday night, City Council members acted on 29 items ranging from a Lone Star Gas rate increase to granting First Baptist Church a 50-year ex- tension at $1 a year on the lease of adjacent city property. Residential and commercial consumers will note less than a 3 percent increase in gas rates on bills immediately, according to B.J. Parrish, manager of the Garland district of the gas com- pany. Parrish said Murphy and Sachse countered with a lower proposal than originally pre- sented (70 percent of the request for a 4.10 increase), but he com- mended the Council for its cooperation. He added that the number of customers has in- creased since 1983 from 745 to 1,795. "Lone Star still maintains one of the lowest rates in Texas, and customers in the Murphy/Sachse system benefit from a lower-than- average cost because of a gas cost adjustment in which savings are passed along to the cus- tomers on a monthly basis," Par- rish sa...
