CORRESPONDENCE. To the Editor. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 1 July 1949

Ci ORRESPONDENCE, ---- - - To the Editor. Sir,--Theje are some parts of Mr. Clements' lutter of 24/6/49 whichl in fairness to all parties call for some reply. In the first place, Mr. Clements' reference to those who are for and those who are against the ambulance service seems pointless, as most peo ple supported the appeal to provide funds to purchase the ambulance. The reference to majority rule is also dif ficult to follow, as anyrresolution car ried at the council table must be by a majority, and here, might I point out, the first resolution in connection with an ambulance site, moved by myself and seconded by Cr. Girdwood on February 9th, 1949, was carried unanimously. Mr. Clements' claim that Mr. Briggs said a lopsided building would be erected . incorrect. When a coun cillor at tl) last meeting attempted to place '-tat construction on Mr. Briggs' remark, at least two other councillorsat the table objected, on the groundi that Mr. Briggs neither said nor inftrred that a lopsid...

3SR FRIENDSHIP CLUB BALL. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 1 July 1949

8SR FRIENDSHIP CLUB BALL. The ball organised by the Alexan dra 3SR Friendship Club was held at the Shire Hall on Friday night last. The function proved most enjoyable. Music was supplied by the Zig-Zag and Dundas' orchestras for a pro grame of continuous dancing, for which Mr. 1-I. Dibbens officiated as M.C. The arrangements for the ball were perfect, and no detail was left un attended to. The purpose of the effort was to raise funds for the 3SR Hospital Sun day appeal. The attendance was not as large as that of the previous year, nevertheless there was a fair repre sentation of the district. A noticeable improvement was the 'seating of 82 persons in a sitting for supper. The Shire Council has re cently purchased additional seating accommodation, enabling the larger relays of supper to be handled. Or ganisers of social affairs will find this to be a great help. The Friendship Club is to be con gratulated on the interest taken by members in the hospital appeal. This has been manifest...
