KLONDIKE. [Newspaper Article] — Eden Free Press and Eden District Advertiser — 4 January 1899

KLONDIKE. To a traveller, pure and simple, K-L uiliko is intenaely inteceattPff and oVenthoao who have lost heav ily by the evperiment do not alto gttb'r grudge the money, It is certainly a unique experience, for it is exceedingly doubtful whether tiieri' will ever ho a second Klon dike, and it is also of value in flow ing liow much men and women can go through. The amount of energy and pluck expended in surmounting hardships and dangers, if cpent in another direction, wou'i have pro bably prought them a fortune. But for mining purposes, Australi ans had better leave it alone—the only propfe who make money there (with of ©ourse the exception of a few rich strikes) a«-e the transpor tation companies, tbe outfitters, the saloon keepers and the police, and for the s iko of theso the boom will probably be kept up for a year or two longer.
