The Riverine Herald. ECHUCA, SATURDAY, JAN. 9, 1869. [Newspaper Article] — Riverine Herald — 9 January 1869

ECEUCA, SATURDAY, J AX. 9, 1860. In our lasl issue, we briefly sta'etJ that a large number of our fellow-townsmen pur posed resisting payment of the charges asked by the Borough Council far the supply of water from the municipal mains. For a variety of reasons we then abstained from commenting on so disagreeable a subject, but as our sileuce may have been wrongly con strued into something like consent, we hasten to disabuse the -minds of our readers of an idea which we should he extremely sorry that a majority'of them should entertain. "We permitted ourselves to hope that time and re :flection would amply suffice to smother the petty annoyances caused by the visits of the collector, and we trusted that we might be spared the pain of more widely cir culating details which could serve but to bring Echuca into well merited contempt. We. were also anxious to obtain a belter knowledge of the bearings of the case, and to see how well or ill founded were the causes of complaint. Well, Time...
