TUMUT SQUIBS. [Newspaper Article] — Adelong and Tumut Express and Tumbarumba Post — 6 April 1900

TUMUT SQUIBS. The only thing for particular note in my lino this week is a wood-chopping contest between two well-known workers with the axe — Mick and Bill. Bill thinks he can beat any comer in wielding this weapon, so a well-known sporting boniface has backed Mick against him to chop wood for two hours to-morrow (Saturday), the con test occupying from 10 o'clock to noon, and the stakes avo. a fiver. Tho money is down and is in safe hands. The chopping is to come off in the Oriental yard, and the proprietor has laid in an unusually large stock of fiiewood, some 40 cords, partly for the winter's supply and partly in'nnticipa tion.of taring for- tliio-'mutcU being arranged. Take my word ! the lookers on will see chips fly, ;; Each axeman is said to have numerous admirers. The proprietor, of. the wood is pleased the match has been arranged as he reckons upon gejiting.a tidy quantity of iirewood miide ready for the stove, tho lengths being , stated at ' 2ft.
