[?] of James Mace and Thirty-one Gamblers. [Newspaper Article] — The Horsham Times — 17 January 1882

ThIrtyonsGamblres. !r -.-.-o---... ' I* will ble zemembarea tlhat abot Ave waks ago a raid was made on a Sunday morning on Prendergast's American Bar HBtel, Bourke-stroet east, and about. 20 persons were arrested for being in a com ncan gaming-house. The parties concernedin that affair were all prosecuted and fined for the offence, and it was thought that the pro ceedings would deter other persons, especially publicans, from allowing gambling to be carried on in their licensed houses. The warning, however, has apparently had no effect, and Detective Duncan, who had charge of Prendergast's case, has been aware that gambling was still carried on in a number of houses, only more cautiously. From a care ful investigation he was convinced that Mace's V.R.C Hotel, Bburke-street eat,??is a g mbling house, and he accordinglyobtained a warrant from Mr Call, P. .L, for the arriest of Mace andallU persons found .in-the house. Very great difficulty was experienced in ob. taining admission td' tho...

Greasy merino is equal to, while greasy crossbred is 5 per cent. above Sep. tember and October rates.
