THE WEEK : RETROSPECTIVE AND PROSPECTIVE. [Newspaper Article] — The Telegraph, St Kilda, Prahran and South Yarra Guardian — 20 January 1866

THE WEEK: RETRIOSPECTIVE AND PROSP 'T'IVE. Success continues to wait upon the Ministry. By the second series of elections they have had their, nimajority considerably enl:rged. At ipresent, the Opposition can only count some eighb q votes out of a total of 41 members returned; and there is vory) littloe probbility that they will .ble able to increase this number materislly by securing maty of the 87 seats still vacant. For these tlhere are at present 28 Mliaisterial candidates, and a like number for the Opposition; but as the nominations fort those will not close until the 22nd, it is lpossible there may yet be several alterations. Brtt taking the list as it at present stands, we do not think that at tile outside more thun a dozen of thle Opposition will be returned-a?nd we shall not le surprised if the numberi be considerably less. This unanimnity on the part of the electors is really wonderll, and makes us regret that a Governnent with such a powver at its back should have seen fi...
