HOBART. SITTING MAGISTRATE.-A. W. H. HUMPHREY, Esq. Yesterday evening an elegant Ball and Supper was given by His HONOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DAVEY; at which were present the principal Military, Naval, and Ci- vil Officers, and Ladies and Gentlemen of the Colony; and   the Evening was spent in the greatest conviviality. The present state of fine weather, with the late favoura- ble and seasonable rains, have proved highly advantageous to the Agriculturist, enabling him to get his land into good   tilth for the present seed Season; and it is to be hoped   that our next Harvest, under Providence, will prove equal- ly as abundant as the last, amply rewarding the toil of the Farmer. At a Bench of Magistrates on Saturday last, Benjamin Nokes, a   petitioner holding a ticket of leave, was charged with feloniously       receiving from John O'Neil, a prisoner (who lately came from Syd-   ney in the brig Kangaroo), one pair of nankeen trowsers, knowing     them to be stolen ; and, also, receiving from David Vye, one ¼ yard   of blue Cloth, and two pieces of nankeen ; also, illegally receiving from John O'Neil (the above-mentioned person), with intent to de-       fraud the owners thereof, a remnant of green Cloth, and two ¼   yards of brown woolen Cloth, the property of Mr. William Maum and Joseph Lester, for which the Court found him guilty, and sentenced him to work in the gaol gang nine kalendar months, and to forfeit his ticket of leave.     ANECDOTE of FREDERIC the II, the la...
