JOAN DALLEY,   LOCAL AUCTIONEER & COMMISSION AGENT, EAST BELLARINE. FEED FOR SPARROWS.         Why feed sparrows? They eat the wheat, yes and he eats the wheat grub too, otherwise if he did not we should have no wheat at all, therefore if he saves the crop he has a just right to a portion of it. But you say he eats it too at planning time; yes if it is on top of the ground he would have a just right to a share of what he is going to protect, but they waste so much at harvest time, feed them and there will be no waste. What shall I feed them on? He likes the wheat best. I say he     likes the sun flower seed better than anything   else. If you have 100 acres of wheat sow one     acre of sun flower and they will not touch your wheat. It is also well adapted for railway reserves, and on embankments it takes a good root; it would save the surface and ...

The Sentinel. QUEENSCLIFF, SATURDAY 2ND DECEMBER, 1882. [Newspaper Article] — Queenscliff Sentinel, Drysdale, ... — 2 December 1882

QUEENSCLIFF, SATURDAY     2ND DECEMBER, 1882.   The adjourned regatta meeting was held on Tuesday evening, Commodore Stoneman in the chair. A programme of nine events was brought up by Mr. Crepney, on behalf of the sub-committee, and after some discussion was adopted, subject to future revision, in the shape of making the prizes of more value. Mr. Crepney remarked that he was sorry to see   the publicans of the borough not taking an active part in the regatta, for he only noticed one present (Mr. Sheehan). He considered it was to their interest to assist the regatta com- mittee. Some discussion took place on the 27th of December being fixed as the regatta day, but no alteration was made. It is an- ticipated that £100 will be given in prizes, the first-class yachts having a Queensland cup,   valued at £25, presented to the winning yacht. The adjourned annual meeting of the Queenscliff Borough Council was held last &...

SEA-SIDE RAMBLES. "I want to know you know." [Newspaper Article] — Queenscliff Sentinel, Drysdale, ... — 2 December 1882

SEA-SIDE RAMBLES. "I want to know you know." I am glad to hear that Baker Pasha has   had the leather medal presented by "the young ladies of Queenscliff." He was deserv- ing of some recognition of his honorary ser- vices on behalf of the lovers of the light fan- tactic toe. Enough said. Depart in peace. Let there not be any weeping or wailing or gnashing of teeth. Can anyone tell me where second hand um- brellas can be bought ? Billy, the waiter, is here after a few. Well, what do you think of that! It is not true about "Milky" being made mayor next year. He wouldn't take the position if offered to him. I notice the tar pavement business is pro- ceeding very slowly. I suppose it will be finished before the milinium. I was of opinion, and so were many others, that the work could be done better by tender, but our wiseacres think otherwise.   It is stated that a return ball is to be given at an early date. I hope so. Perhaps there will be as good a turn out a...
