JAMBEROO. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 10 August 1887

J'AMBER00. Ten resitlents of this neighbourhood will probably be inclined to think that Mr. 31. King has shown that he is additionally ontitled to the nameo of a faithful and ef ficient representative by the action he took in the Council thc other day, when he brought fore ard the question of getting the Government to give clfect, to the surveys which they caused to be made some years ago for deviations on tha Stony Creek iroadl between tile Turpentine Oreek and \Iountl: Terry. One might ridlo from Shoalhaven to Sydney without tinding another piece of road so villainously inconvenient for travel lors as that which I speak of. It is all ups and downs with scarctly a yard of levtel travelling till one reaches the foot of MBount Terry. lMr. Webor, who was road superin tendaet, or whatoever they call it, somo years ago, surveyed several deviations, and I suppose, if the Council hlnd the road grants to expend, the departmental ollioor would have to be employed again to stakeo out the wor...

THE NEW PROPR?ETOO TO HIS DEAl5 TRIENDS--THE LOCAL PUfBLIO, Tsni iendO'ers of this journal will olservo at the head, and likewise at the tail, of the pro sent issul, certain indications of change, The symlitoms which appear on thie head and front of tlhe bantlinllg attest the process of roachristening ; it has received a new, o' at least an altered lne. FULLER v. WESTON—AN OLD STORY. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 10 August 1887

F'ULLEa v. WESTON- AN OLD STORY. To the greater number, perhaps, of llhoso whlio observe tie abovo heading, it will sug Rest no other idea than that of a lawsuit which may have taken place somowhere, and at some time; and most of those who remember the ovent in Kiameso history to which it actually refers, will probably won lder why I should think it worth while to re-tell such an old story. I will explain that point before rehearsing tho~tale. During the last few years I have been very little in Kinina, aml have only main tained a very moderate degreo of acquainlt. ance with its concerns. Events, however, move fast in Kiama as elsewhere, I suppose; and a good deal has undoubtedly taken place in those years, so that it alhost seem as if a new generation had arison, of whom it cannot, indeed, be said that they "knew not Joseph," though I may very well say that tloy know not me. 'Tho circumstanco involves no great loss to them, of 'coursoe but there are still some who recollect the law...

THE NAME OF THE COLONY. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 10 August 1887

THE NAME OF THE COLONY. .Ttc suleject of tho re.christening of the Scolony is receiving some attention; and in our opinion is entitled to more. Tlhe follow. ing contribution, which treats of that sub. ject, was published in the "Shoallhaven Tele graph" in November last, and appears worth reprinting. Thie writer is at considorable pains to set forth the actual state of the question, but does not very strongly reconm mend any particular appellation. It will be observed that some of the allusions which the article contains have lost their mueaning 'through lapse of time, but this is of little consequence. Smn,-A great deal is written and spoken just now as to the manner in which tile ap. .proaching centenary of the colony may be most appropriately and offecti vely celebrated; and in all probability a good deal of money will be spent on tile occasion-to more or loss good purpose. However that may be, I tlhink I can suggest one little project, which most persons of taste or cultivation m...
