Owing to the pressure of business it is foared that the Minister of Education cannot attend, but Mr Hunt will certainly be present. A muotion for meet:g at two o'clock in the alternoon met with a very cool reception from the majority ; several of the recipients of £300 per at'nuos from n grateful country including your for mer member, Mr ])ufly, argused that if such a system wets adopted they could not afrnrd to held their nests. Of course the mere mention of such a terrible calamity was suffi cient, and the oli pl...

inrrespt ull~rtce. RAILWAY COMMUNICATION. (7'o ,e Editor oJ' he Standard). Sm,-Tho question of railway communicra tion is of great importance to the inhabitant, of this district, and as one of many years' residence I was pleased to see from a sub leader in last Saturday's 7imes, that our "league" had been asked to co-operate with the Yarra Valley League, with the object of bringing their scheme before the Minister of Itailwaye, and advoqating its adoption. The route which the Upper Goulburn Valley League has hitherto been in favor of hoe never received the enthusiastic support of the general community; in fact, many of our most influential residents have been conspi cuous by their apathy, for the reason that they could see no probability of a railway via Yoe ever paying anything approaching interest on the cost of construction, which would be consilorably beyond the Govern ment limit. The country it would pass through is by no means flrst-class, and the best of it is in the hands of...
