This was said more than twelve months ago because it was believed then that things had beco:ne so nca that they could not get worse. For one thilng we are promised an abundant wool clip. Tie season has been good and feed abundant. Then there is an increased activity in mining centres. True, silver is down, but compensation is found in an extra wield of gold. Butter and cheese making progresses, and the export of both will soon be doubled. The following; are the returns in con nection with the Seymour election :-   Seymour riding: J. Carnie. 297; C. Perron 159. Avenel riding. 297 Do   naldson. 147; F. Brumby, 109. Koby boyn riding : Colin McKenzie, 114; W S. Thomas, 62. Tallarook riding: F. Kennedy, unopposed. Messrs,. Carnie, Donaldson and McKenzie were elected. Mr. Collas was elected auditor. Messrs. Purcel, Sandilands and An derson were returned for the central riding of the Yea Shire, Mr. Webster being defeated by 24 votes. PYALONG   The retiring councillors for the dif ferent ridings of the above shire were returned unopposed. Messrs. Kenny and Figgins contested the auditorship, the former being succeesful. LANCEFIELD   At Lancefield the retiring candidates, Crs. Hiunt, Little, and Richards, were   opposed by Messrs. Ralph Williams and J. T. Smith. Crs. Little and Richards were defeated.

I north-north east of Ilannan's broke oit last Tuesday, and everyboldy cleared off for the place at once, their being only too men left at -lHannan's. Egan and party have obtained G64oz. out ofi heir claim exclusive of expenses. Cashman's reef is looking well. Another party, four miles east of Cashman's dollied out a pickle-bottle full of gold from another reef. Summer weather is prevailing and the water cannot last mtnch longer. The officers of the water supply department at Southern Cross leave for Coolgardie on Tuesday, on camels. A borer has left here on the road to Coolgardio.
