HOItRRORS OF WAB. Paris, Jan. 1. Mr. Howard, of Net, York, who has been doing much relief work among the Armenians, luus completed a 00-mileo journey through Albania. He gives a deplorable account of the excesses of the Servian troops. Dur ing the past ten weeks the Servians have destroyed 100 villages, and cither killed or burnt to death 4,000 men, women andl children. In addition 100,000 Albanians have beCe rendered homeless, and of this nuimber Mr. Howard can see no otlher fate for 30,000 of them, before the winter ends, than that of starving or freezing to death.

THE HOLIDAYS. The Christmas and New Year holi dayespassed off pleasantly and without accident of any kind, so far as our own immediate district is concerned. The weather, taking it altogether, was agreeable. Strong westerly winds pre vailed most of the time, but while they made things unp'eassnton the sea they ensured coo'nees and mide out door life on the land'enjoyable. The .principal event of a holiday character was the naval encampment and sports at Allestree, which was o: ganised and carried out by Warrant Ollicers Jones and Robertson, of Port land and Port Fairy respectively, as sisted by a committce of Allestrc resi dents. There was a fair muster of cadets from both ports, and life under canvas was greatly enj eyed. Besides providing a good holiday, camp life tended to foster that spirit of comradeship which is essential to the esprit de corps which is the life of any body of men.
