IPSWICH. [from a cobukspondent. ] Marcli 8. Before commencing my budget of news per mit me, Mr. Editor, in the first place, to con gratulate the proprietor of the "Star" on his "getting into harness" again with sack a fine field for his energies before him; and, in the. next place, to congratulate the town and district on having at length obtained what they have so long desired—viz., an exponent of their wants,.. a chronicle of their progress, and an organ T>y which their opinions can be made known to, and have their due weight with, the rest of the colony. I haft'e no doubt that the magnificent district around Roma-will soon feel the 'benefit which a well-conducted newspaper can confer, and that its progress will be correspondingly rapid. BRISBANE. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] [Newspaper Article] — Western Star and Roma Advertiser — 27 March 1875

BRISBANE. OBB Ora COBJEtESPOKDENT.] There is nothing particular to remark down here, except that biisiness is very dull from the late floods; that money is gefctiiig'scarce y and£ as the banking returns show, thedemand ^ojr accommodation is on the increase... It is ex pected that $a increased rate of discount will come under the consideration of the hanking authorities soon. The " Courier's" exposition of the financial position of the Government is creating some dissatisfaction. A deficit, if ike, money voted is spent, in the general revennej and the entire absorption of the last loan, give rise to apprehensions wijicli do not tend to pro mote confidence. The contest on the Darling Downs seems likely to go in favour of Mr. Graham. Mr. Douglas's previous career has been so vacillating and uncertain, and his proclivities for office so apparent, as to shake his chances ; and his connection with Morgan and Pechey has not' improved them. His candidature is regarded as a stroke of Morgan'...

BQ&LA, MAHCHX27, 1875. The undertaking of a new journal is always a cause of anxiety, especially in a district which has previously had no local organ ; and where, as in this great western district, there is a supposed antagonismbetweeii the ■ interests of the townships, and the pastoral tenants, the difficulties of establishing a news paper ^rMch shall command the confidence of < all are proportionately greater. The only course to be taken1 in such a case is an honest and impartial advocacy of the welfare of all; and while it is quite possible that in pursu ing it we may sometimes run counter to the opinions or prejudices of: both, we are quite sure .of in the end .winning their approval There can be no orie-sidedness in a journal "which aims at the advancement of every class and every interest.
