SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. At about half, past six last evening, i when the temperature was 'in the vicin ity of 100 degrees, a very severe storm arose. The sky was clouded ' over in the space of a few minutes, and the rain came down in great sheets. The wind was so strong as to blow down the large sign of Messrs. Garvin and Cous ens fro mover their offices.. The sign fell oh top of a motor car that-, wns aiongside !th_e - kerb. Nobody was in the car, anil very little damage was ! done. Several telephone poles in the town were blown down, including one in Griflln Lane and another in Piper street. The rain was very heavy at times, and v/tll be detrimental to the harvesting. It was not known last night the extent of the storm. DANGER !N THE POST OFFICE TOWER The Post Offlce tower at Tamworth is dangerous, and the public should be on guard when in the vicinity. About 6 a.m. yesterday morning the wife of the Postmaster, Mr. Macrow was awak ened by a loud- cr./shing noise. In the morning the officers on arriving to work found on the asphalt of the footpath in Fitzroy-street a lump of concrete weigh ing 301bs. It had dropped from the top of the tower, and embedded itself in the asphalt four inches deep. Owing to the holiday the Postmaster was unaKe to secure labor to examine the damage to the tower. This will be attended to so soon as the holidays are over. Mean time the Postmaster warns people to keep away from ' the tower in Fte roy and Peel Streets.
