D:?BCOVERY OF A COAL MINE. A -IScovEnY of a magnificent coal-seam has reentitly been made by some gentleman namned Cosgrove while out kangaroo-lhunting, alout three miles from the Cross:Roads in the Berrima district, and fourty mili from Goulburn. Thle scan is described as being seventeen feet in thickness and rising like n wall poerpendicularly, so that the trouble of gottiitiiilt-the coal is reduce . to a minimum. The quality is very superior. 'ho dlistance from the railway-line is about six miles, and the:.carriago either by tramway or by a traction-ongine would be easy. 'It is thought that .tohe whole country between tlhere and Illawarrawill be found one large coal-field; buf":coisidering the ease of getting at the present discovery and working the mine, it may well be doubted whether any greator facility of eantriago either by rail or by water cani render any other mine of greatir value. TH1E GRETA LOCK-OUT1 A cHlARGE OF VIOLENT ASSAULT. (Abridged ff m the " Maitland Mcrcury.'). ON l ursday last, at the West MaiLland Police Court, aDavid Grainger and John ?casi3, were charged, with having at Greta, on the 28th Novem ber, aslaultcd one Henry M1arshall. Robcrt Coger was chargcid wflth thom for aiding and abetting.- M'hw-defcnbusts pleaded not guilty, and were defended by Mr. George Wallace of Newcastle, and Mr. HenryLcvien, of Maitland.. h. W..Thomp son appeared for the prosecution. - Henry Marshall stated: He was cmployed at Greta, as a sinker, and had charge of gang of men. Sonmaohf them at this time wor8i ot at work.
