OBITUARY. The eldest son (George Albert) of Mr and Mrs WV. Irvin, of Heidelberg, pass ed away at the Melbourne hospital on Tuesday last from Bright's disease. The deceased, who had been a great sufferer foa the past twelve months, had.been in the hospital for four weeks, but his end was as peaceful as could be desired, his suffering having been borne with great fortitude. He was born in Adelaide, and had been a resident of this district for the past ten years, being connected with his father's business. The funeral took place on Thursday, the Rev. Hardie performing the last sad rites. Deceased leaves a widow, who resides at Fairfield, who has general sympathy in her be reavement. On Wednesday a cousin (R. Hutchins, 27 years of age) was buried at Coburg, having succumbed from the re sult of a strained heart. Impoundings are advertised. The Rev. J. WOMEN'S NATIONAL LEAGUE. We wish to draw the attention of our readers to an advertisement in this issue notifying the meeting of the Women's National League on Wednesday next at :Scots hall, Heidelberg. In our last is sue we stated that the goods forwarded to our boys at the front were sent through the Government. This is not so. The goods are forwarded direct by the League in the quickest and safest manner. All goods received next Wed nesday are for the French led Cross, and will be despatched by the League without delay. ST. JOHN'S, HEIDELBERG, Despite a cold blustering night a very fair congregation was present on Tues day last, when Bishop Green attended to administer the rite of confirmation. The Bishop, in a most helpful and elo quent address, pointed out that the con firmees were at that service pledging themselves to definitely serve God and fis Church, and urged them to take as their aim St. Paul's motto, " One thing I do," viz., glorify God. This they would be enabled to do, not by their own efforts, but by the spiritual grace obtained through the channels of pray er, Bible reading and Communion. There were seven candidates presented lby the acting-vicar, the Rev. E. C. Frewin.

FRENCH RED CROSS EFFORT. In view of the very urgent need of the French Red Cross Society at the pre sent time, a great effort is to be made during the coming week to help them. In common with other districts every part of our shire and every individual in it will b, asked to assist.- This will re. quire all the possible resources that can be summoned. FAIRFIELD RIFLE CLUB. The first annual meeting was held in the club's rooms, Fairfield, on Monday evening. Mr Shcrriff, one of the club's auditors, congratulated the committee and members on their splendid financial p6sitiqon. The balance-sheet showed that tliei;? i-ere 111 members' subscription's: paid.
